Author Guidelines

Bibliothecae.it is a scientific journal and publishes original research, and review on library and information science, the history of libraries from the early modern through modern time.

Full articles

Contributions should normally be between 6.000 and 15,000 words in length. They should include an abstract in Italian and English of about 2000 characters with spaces, and up to five key words. The abstract should be in third person and cover the overall purpose or research problem.
The title, keywords and abstract are key to ensuring readers find your article online through online search engines such as Google.
Only electronic files conforming to the journal's guidelines will be accepted. Preferred formats for the text and tables of your manuscript are Word DOC.

Figures

Figures have to be attached in separate files (.jpg o .tif) and should be appropriately sized (1 mega × for coloured pictures e 600 × 300 pixel for black and white and bitmap); All figures should be numbered consecutively and cited in the text as Figure 1, Figure 2 etc. (Figure should be spelled out in full, not abbreviated). They had to be submitted separately as source files along with a file in which all figures and their captions are fully listed.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission from copyright holders for reproducing any illustrations, tables, figures or lengthy quotations previously published elsewhere.

Footnotes

Footnotes are indicated by a superscript Arabic numeral placed after the punctuation, with the exception of the cases in which the reference is strictly connected to a single word (i.e. translation of a word or biographical references). The quotation system is author-date syle, i.e. Solimine 2014 No punctuation is used between the name and the date. There must be a reference list entry for each in-text citation.

Please do not use Word automatic numbering and desktop publishing features such as justification, centering, or different fonts within the body of the text. The use of italics should be limited to non -English words, and book titles.

Quotations

For shorter quotations, double quotation marks (« ») should be used for the first level of quotation, and single quotation marks ‘ ’ for emphasizing single words or non literally quotations. Translation and transliteration

Single words or phrases in a non-Roman script must be fully transliterated.
The first usage of a non-English word should be translated and should be followed by the translation in parentheses, e.g., cantastorie (street-singers).. Diacritical marks should be used where appropriate (e.g., in German, umlauts should be used rather than spelling with an extra “e”; the “sharps,” however, may be rendered by “ss”)

Book Reviews

Book reviews may be submitted in word .doc and Times New Roman. The title of the reviewed monograph should be described as follows: Name, Surname, Title, city, publishing, year, number of pages, series, isbn, price.

In the book review the author of the reviewed monograph should be always indicated with the first letter of the surname (example for Paolo Traniello: T.) In case of co-authorships or collective volumes the names of all authors have to be indicated. In case of quotations please use « » and note the page number in bracket (p. 23). Book reviews have to be signed in italics at the end of the review.

1) Please limit the corrections to obvious mistakes like typos and misspellings.

2) Please note that further editing or changes to the layout are not possible.

3) Please make sure the corrections do not cause page overrun.
